Jesse Winker is no stranger to controversial moments. The New York Mets' designated hitter was plastered all over social media this past week after an exuberant walk-off celebration against the Baltimore Orioles saw Winker slam his helmet, take off his gear, and round the bases as if he'd just won both prizes during the Showcase Showdown on The Price Is Right.

But the Friar faithful will remember a rather heated exchange between Winker and a San Diego Padres fan earlier this season while the Mets' slugger was a member of the Washington Nationals. A Jurickson Profar walk-off double capped off an epic comeback in extra innings back in June, and following the game, Winker got into a war of words with a Pads fan.

The fan was actually defending Profar, as one of the pitches during the 10th-inning rally came up and in on the Padres' outfielder and caused him to lose his balance. It was a rather disappointing scene, and while Winker didn't put his hands on the fan, it was an unnecessary exchange.

But Profar (kind of) got back at Winker and his new team over the weekend. Though his celebration was not nearly as obnoxious, Profar was feeling his oats after crushing a clutch two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park. Profar's round-tripper tied the game and helped propel San Diego to a much-needed win.

This weekend's series was a back-and-forth between two contending playoff teams. The. series split helped San Diego maintain their lead in the NL Wild Card chase. While the Padres have cooled a bit of late, the Friars are still in the wild card mix and the Mets are 2.5 games back.

Profar's trot around the bases had to feel a little extra sweet knowing that Winker was in the dugout watching the implosion firsthand. The Padres will be looking to put some more distance between themselves and the Mets when they begin a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals this week.
