San Diego Padres: Wil Myers, Chase Headley Back in Lineup Tonight

SAN DIEGO, CA - MARCH 29: Wil Myers
SAN DIEGO, CA - MARCH 29: Wil Myers

After missing Saturday’s game versus the Milwaukee Brewers with back stiffness, according to reports, the San Diego Padres’ first-baseman is back in the lineup tonight.

As per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Wil Myers is back in the San Diego Padres’ lineup tonight after coming out of Friday’s game and missing Saturday’s game with lower-back stiffness.

Apparently, Myers lost his argument with manager Andy Green to play on Saturday. It’s certainly nice to see him back in the mix tonight. For the Friars to enjoy success this season, they’ll need their big bats in the lineup throughout the season.

Also making his way back into the starting eight tonight is veteran third-baseman, Chase Headley. After going 0-for-4 and leaving a handful of Friars on-base on Opening Day, Cory Spangenberg and Christian Villanueva both got starts in the next two games in favor of Headley.

Hopefully, tonight he’ll start justifying the top-billing Andy Green has started him out in this season. With Spangy and Villanueva both nipping at Headley’s heels, his penchant for getting on-base might begin to be outweighed by the offensive prowess of his competition for the starting spot.

San Diego Padres lineup tonight vs. Colorado Rockies

Starting in centerfield and batting leadoff is Manuel Margot, followed by Myers, and then Eric Hosmer and Jose Pirela, playing left field again tonight.

Carlos Asuaje is playing second base, batting fifth. Headley is playing third, batting sixth, followed by Freddy Galvis at shortstop.

Austin Hedges will be doing the catching, hitting eighth and Bryan Mitchell will make his team debut and will hit ninth.

This lineup has fared well against the Rockies’ starter Chad Bettis, as Myers (.500), Hedges (.667), Asuaje (.333), and Margot (.333) have all had levels of success against him, albeit in limited at-bats.

Next: Padres Hoping Margot Breaks Out Soon

Hopefully, this is a recipe for success for the Friars tonight as they search for their first win of the season.
