Abraham Almonte is just not hacking it in the majors and it’s time the San Diego Padres send him back down to the minors.

Almonte was originally recalled when Wil Myers went on the DL and another outfielder was needed to fill his spot. Problem is, they brought up the wrong outfielder. Since his arrival Almonte has hit an abysmal .176/.243/.176; six hits in 34 plate appearances.
I know the entire team is slumping but while we may not have the depth to replace our lackluster infield, the Padres have lots of outfielders hitting well in he minors they could use in place of the struggling Almonte.
Fan favorite Cody Decker is have doing well in Triple-A. Decker is currently hitting .274/.356/.581 in El Paso with 10 homeruns. Decker is also a utility man and could play at first base or catcher as well.
Personally, I’d like to see the Padres recall Rymer Liriano to the majors from El Paso. Liriano is also having a good season in Triple-A, hitting .278/.381/.451 with five homeruns. Liriano has been with the Padres since 2008, signing when he was 17 yrs. old. He got some playing time with the major league club last season, hitting .220/.289/.266. If it had not been for the Padres’ outfield makeover this offseason, he would probably be in the majors again this season. The organization has been waiting to see if Liriano can be an everyday outfielder, so every day that Almonte is taking his place in the lineup is another wasted opportunity.
So please, AJ Preller, send Almonte away and give Liriano a shot. It might just be the spark our offense needs and there’s no way he could be as terrible as Almonte has been.
What do you guys think? Is there another outfield the Padres should recall to replace Almonte?
