Justin Upton returned to action today after missing time due to illness. Upton nearly homered on his pitch back but Dexter Fowler made a running catch at the wall.
Andrew Cashner made his second start of the 2015 Cactus League season and looked in fine form. Taking out his first three opponents in just seven pitches. He finished with no hits given after three innings of work, and collecting three strikeouts.
There was some concern after Cashner left the mound and marched directly with manager Buddy Black and a team trainer to the clubhouse. Hopefully there is nothing to be concerned about, but stay tuned to Friars On Base for all Spring Training and Andrew Cashner updates.
Will Middlebrooks (1-4) showed some power today, knocking a 96-mph fastball over the wall for a three run home run.
Yonder Alonso (1-3) also hit a two run home run in the fifth to put the Padres up 5-0.
Abraham Almonte drove in Jedd Gyorko (2-3) with an RBI single to make it 6-0.
The Cubbies managed a few runs late in the game but the Padres held the lead and took home the victory, 6-3
