Tyson Ross started for the Pads and despite getting the loss, looked very solid once again. Ross only gave up four hits and three runs, striking out eight batters as well. Relief pitchers Brandon Maurer and Kevin Quackenbush were scoreless out of the bullpen, it was the Padres offense that failed to give Ross the run support he needed.

Cubs’ starting pitcher, Tsuyoshi Wada, made his MLB debut and with the exception of a two run bomb by Justin Upton, looked pretty sharp – he even scored a run, sliding into home – striking out nine Padres in his 4 2/3 innings pitched. The Padres had lots of opportunities to take the lead but failed to capitalize on base runners, stranding 16 runners.

Padres will try to get back to .500 on the season tonight. Odrisamer Despaigne will try to that early season magic in what may be his last start before going back to the bullpen.
