Despite giving up three homeruns, the San Diego Padres were able to walk away Tuesday with a 4-3 win over the visiting Chicago Cubs.

The Padres scored four runs tonight but three were unearned thanks to three errors committed by the Cubs.

Justin Upton had an unusual day at the plate, strike out three times tonight – the third causing hime to shatter his bat on the dirt.

James Shields got the start for the Pads tonight, throwing seven innings, surrendering 6 hits, but striking out 11 batters. Another strong performance by Shields, who improves to 6-0 on the season.

Craig Kimbrel got his 11th save of the season tonight. Kimbrel did get taken yard again tonight on one mistake, but did look as dangerous as ever.

Tyson Ross will have the start tomorrow for the Pads in Game 2 of this four game series with the Cubs.
