The San Diego Padres have clinched a spot in the 2025 MLB playoffs. But before postseason games get going, the Friars have one more series in the regular season. They host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set to close out the year as they aim to reach 90 wins.
Entering this final series, who are the hottest players on the team? These five players have been tearing it up recently, and will hopefully ride that wave for one final regular season slate.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Tatis Jr. has not played in a few days due to an undisclosed illness, but before that, he was piecing together his best month of the 2025 season. He was on a five-game hitting streak, batting 7-for-21 with six runs scored, which he can hopefully tap back into despite being on the shelf for a few days.

Ryan O'Hearn
O'Hearn enters Friday on a six-game hitting streak, batting 12-for-24 with a grand slam and eight total RBIs. It's going to be hard keeping O'Hearn out of the starting lineup if he continues to rake going into October.
Yuki Matsui
Matsui has not had a great season overall, which was hindered by consistent struggles from May-July. He bounced back a bit in August, but he has been on fire on the mound in September. Across six appearances this month, Matsui has allowed no runs on just one hit. This has brough his ERA down from 5.18 in early August, to 3.98.
Mason Miller
Since Mason Miller has been a Padre, there have been very few pitchers better than. He's allowed just two runs in 21 innings with San Diego, but he is currently riding an 18-appearance scoreless streak, which spans 19 innings. In September, he has allowed one hit in 10 innings with a 20-4 K/BB rate.
During this stretch, his season ERA has plummeted from 4.02, to 2.73. For the season, he has 98 punch-outs in 59.1 innings (14.9 K/9), and with the Padres, he boasts a 0.762 WHIP.
