At one point this season, the San Diego Padres had the best bullpen in baseball. While that still may be true, this staff has taken a step back over the last month or so. Jason Adam and David Morgan have both gotten injured. Jeremiah Estrada and Adrian Morejon haven't been great in September, and even Robert Suarez has faltered a couple of times.

But through this storm cloud that's recently covered the Padres' bullpen is Mason Miller. Traded for a boatload of prospects at the deadline, Miller has been as good as advertised, if not, even better than that. With the postseason looming, Miller's dominance over the last several weeks has Friars fans feeling settled they have their bullpen ace to save them.

Mason Miller has been a savior these last few weeks as Padres bullpen deteriorates

Entering September 16, Miller is riding a scoreless streak of 15 straight appearances, which spans 15 2/3 frames. In the middle of it all, he's even thrown an immaculate inning, which happened back on September 3 against the Baltimore Orioles at home.

Over this streak, which dates back to August 16, Miller has struck out 31 batters while walking just five and allowing four hits. While he was already among the best relievers in the game, this hot streak has placed Miller in the 99th or 100th percentile in several categories, which starts to beg the question if he is the best bullpen arm right now. It's hard arguing against him.

Since joining the Padres, Miller has a 0.736 WHIP, 17.3 K/9, and 1.02 ERA. While some of the other main San Diego relievers are working out some late-season kinks, Mason Miller is only getting better. It's going to be exciting to watch him pitch against the best teams in the playoffs. He seems ready for the challenge.
