The 2025 regular season for the San Diego Padres is officially underway. The Friars played their Opening Day game at home against the Atlanta Braves on March 27, resulting in a 4-2 exciting victory.
While the big leaguers are already set to play, there are some prospects who were left off of the Opening Day roster. However, these seven players shouldn't have to wait much longer for their names to be called. This year, Ryan Bergert, Austin Krob, Tyson Neighbors, Braden Nett, Tirso Ornelas, Francis Pena, and Bradgley Rodriguez have a strong chance of making their MLB debut in 2025.
The 7 San Diego Padres prospects who will likely make their MLB debut in 2025
Ryan Bergert - RHP
Bergert's slider and sweeper combo will be his ticket to the majors. He has a fastball that sits in the mid-90s, but when sequenced correctly, he is a reliable strikeout pitcher. Bergert is on the Padres' 40-man roster following a strong showing this spring. He allowed one run across five innings, striking out five batters and didn't issue a walk.

Austin Krob - LHP
The 6-foot-3 southpaw has experience as both a starter and a reliever, which bodes well for him based on what San Diego's demand might be this season. His sinker-slider combo induces a ton of ground balls, and that will likely play the same in the major leagues. He isn't quite a strikeout pitcher, but the 25-year-old has learned to be a pitcher, not a thrower.
Tyson Neighbors - RHP
Neighbors didn't get a ton of time at spring training this year. He tossed just 14 pitches across two appearances, but he did not allow a run. He is only 22 years old and was a fourth round draft pick last year, but his heavy fastball and impressive slider could push him through the minor leagues quickly.
Braden Nett - RHP
Nett's swing and miss rate on his slider, mixed with a fastball that can touch 99 MPH, makes him a very strong candidate of making his MLB debut in 2025. He struck out five batters in four innings this spring following a 2024 season in the minors with a 10.1 K/9 across 65 innings.

Tirso Ornelas - OF
Ornelas is on the 40-man roster, and after a great spring, many fans thought he would crack the Opening Day roster. He collected six extra-base hits and six walks, but it is likely only a matter of time before he is promoted to the Padres.
Francis Pena - RHP
Pena does not allow a ton of hits, nor does he walk many, either thanks to an excellent sinker and cutter that sequences well with a mid-to-high 90s fastball. Pena will be a solid relief option whenever needed, but if he can develop some form of a changeup, the Padres will have no choice but to promote him.
Bradgley Rodriguez - RHP
Rodriguez punched out four batters in four spring innings this year. He was incredible in the minors in 2024, bolstering a 2.64 ERA across three leagues. He piled up 75 strikeouts in 61 1/3 frames, and batters only hit .180 against him. His fastball reaching triple digits obviously stands out the most, but his changeup is his most dangerous pitch, which big league pitching coaches love to see.
