Ranking the 10 best former Padres in the 2025 MLB playoffs

Some of these guys are definitely missed in San Diego.

For the fourth time in six years, the San Diego Padres are playoff bound. It's been a year filled with highs and lows, but at the end of the day, the Friars are in the postseason.

With that in mind, we are going to see several players on opposing teams who once donned the San Diego threads. Here are 10 former Padres in the 2025 postseason, ranked based on their production this season.

10. Tanner Scott

  • Current team: Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Years with Padres: 2024
  • 2025 bWAR: -0.7

Scott's first year in Hollywood has not gone the way everyone thought. A 4.82 ERA in 56 innings, Scott has blown 10 saves for the NL West leaders.

9. Colin Rea

  • Current team: Chicago Cubs
  • Years with Padres: 2015-16
  • 2025 bWAR: 0.4

It may not be the prettiest, but Colin Rea wins games. After producing 12 last year, Rea has won 10 games this year 26 starts with a 4.10 ERA.

8. Drew Pomeranz

  • Current team: Chicago Cubs
  • Years with Padres: 2016, 2020-21
  • 2025 bWAR: 0.9

Before 2025, Drew Pomeranz last pitched in the majors in 2021, which was with San Diego. His comeback has been quite the story, as he has produced a 2.22 ERA in 48.2 innings with 55 strikeouts.

7. Tim Hill

  • Current team: New York Yankees
  • Years with Padres: 2020-23
  • 2025 bWAR: 1.1

A 4-4 record out of the bullpen, this sidewinding lefty has appeared in 69 games for the Yankees, logging a 3.14 ERA.

6. Matt Strahm

  • Current team: Philadelphia Phillies
  • Years with Padres: 2018-21
  • 2025 bWAR: 2.0

A long-time Padre, Strahm has been nails for the Phillies these last two seasons. In 2025, he has a 2.74 ERA in 66 appearances, registering a K/9 over 10 for the fourth-straight season.

5. Eric Lauer

  • Current team: Toronto Blue Jays
  • Years with Padres: 2018-19
  • 2025 bWAR: 2.2

Lauer has been the perfect versatile option for the Blue Jays this year. He's made 15 starts and 12 relief appearances, logging a 3.21 ERA with 101 strikeouts and a 9-2 record.

4. Josh Hader

  • Current team: Houston Astros
  • Years with Padres: 2022-23
  • 2025 bWAR: 2.3

Josh Hader's tenure in San Diego was a disaster, logging an ERA over 7.00 in 16 innings. But with Houston this year, he's come back to his normal self, punching 76 strikeouts in 52.2 innings with 28 saves and a 2.05 ERA. Houston has not clinched a playoff spot, but they are one game behind the Detroit Tigers for the final spot in the AL Wild Card race.

3. Trent Grisham

  • Years with Padres: 2020-23
  • 2025 bWAR: 3.5

Friars fans remember Trent Grisham as a two-time Gold Glover, smoothly roaming the outfield who could barely bat .200. This year in the Bronx, Grisham has erupted for a career-high 34 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 115 hits.

2. Josh Naylor

  • Current team: Seattle Mariners
  • Years with Padres: 2019-20
  • 2025 bWAR: 3.0

Naylor is almost a forgotten Padre, but this is where he began his big league career. He's been with the Diamondbacks and the Mariners this season, batting .294 overall with 29 doubles, 29 stolen bases, and 20 home runs. The lineup is headlined by Cal Raleigh and Eugenio Suarez, but Naylor will be an X-factor for the M's this postseason.

  • Years with Padres: 2022-23
  • 2025 bWAR: 6.3

Juan Soto has broken several hearts over the years, including those of Padres fans. Wherever he goes, fans wish he could stay forever. But this generational players is locked in for a long time in Queens, and his first year has been special.

With an OBP almost at .400, Soto handed in his second-straight 40-plus home run, 100-plus RBI season. He's also stolen a career-high 36 bases, scoring 119 times.
