UPDATE: Fernando Tatis Jr. has been placed on the injured list with a "slight stress reaction" and Yu Darvish is dealing with elbow inflammation and wont be able to return to the rotation at the moment.

Though the San Diego Padres couldn't complete the four-game sweep on Sunday afternoon, the Friars took three of four from the Milwaukee Brewers during the weekend series. The Padres are back to .500 with half the 2024 season now in the rearview mirror.

But Sunday's game wasn't the only loss San Diego incurred. The Friars were hit hard by the injury bug that has already claimed the likes of Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, and Xander Bogaerts.

Padres Injury Update: Fernando Tatis Jr. missed two straight games after HBP

Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch on Friday and eventually exited the game once it was his turn to hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tatis was diagnosed with a bruised triceps, but manager Mike Shildt said that the Padres' outfielder is dealing with another injury as well.

Tatis has reportedly been dealing with tightness in his quadriceps for weeks now, and that could become problematic as the season progresses. Shildt gave some rather cryptic comments (via MLB.com) in regards to his superstar outfielder, saying, "It's something we're still evaluating. We're still making internal decisions, having discussions, including with him and our medical group. We'll have a little more clarity moving forward."

Padres Injury News: Yu Darvish dealing with new mystery ailment

San Diego has been without Yu Darvish since the end of May with a groin injury, but it was widely expected that he was going to coming off the injured list against the Nationals. However, reports from Monday indicated that Darvish is now dealing with an unknown separate issue and the likelihood he will make his scheduled return is exceedingly low.

Obviously we don't have enough information to draw too many conclusions, but that Darvish had to scratch his pre-start bullpen session isn't a great sign. When asked about Darvish's status, manager Mike Schildt simply said, "We’re going to see what it looks like and have something for you." Not exactly the most confidence inducing response to say the least, so stay tuned.

Padres Injury Update: Jurickson Profar battling knee injury

Tatis isn't the only Padres' star dealing with a nagging injury. Outfielder Jurickson Profar, who's having an All-Star campaign in 2024, was back in the Friars' lineup on Sunday after missing Saturday's contest with left patellar tendinitis. This is an injury that Profar has been dealing with throughout the season.

This could be an injury that eventually warrants a stay on the IL, but for the time being, Profar is expected to continue to be in the Padres' lineup. The 31-year-old has been one of San Diego's best pickups of the offseason, and is a crucial piece to the offense with Bogaerts out of the lineup.

Padres Injury News: Luis Campusano placed on 10-day IL

While both Tatis and Profar have avoided the injured list (so far), the same cannot be said for catcher Luis Campusano. The Padres' backstop landed on the 10-day IL with a left thumb injury.

Campusano was scaratched from the Padres starting lineup prior to the team's victory on Friday night and then placed on the IL before Saturday's game against the Brewers. The injury is minor in nature, and Campusano isn't expected to miss much time.
