The 2024 MLB Draft is upon us, Padres fans. With A.J. Preller at the helm, it's questionable as to how many of the players selected by San Diego will ever make their Petco Park debut wearing a Padres uniform, but nonetheless, it's an exciting time of year for the Friar faithful.

While San Diego's first-round pick from a year ago (Dillon Head) is now part of the Miami Marlins organization, 2021 first-rounder Jackson Merrill is an All-Star this season and could win NL Rookie of the Year, so drafting and developing players is key to organizational success. How will the Padres' 2024 draft unfold?

As is the case in other sports, the draft is how you build your team from the inside out, or it provides a club with prospect capital to trade for major league talent — something the Padres have done a lot of lately.
