The San Diego Padres played their second spring training game on Saturday, and they did not forget to bring their bats. In a 10-3 victory over the A's at Peoria Stadium, the Friars amassed 13 hits from 11 different players to improve to 2-0 in the early going.

After Sacramento's Tyler Soderstrom drove in Lawrence Butler on an RBI single in the top of the first inning, the Padres were fully in control of the game. They plastered five runs in the bottom of the second, including a go-ahead line drive RBI single from a healthy Luis Arraez, who batted 2-for-2 on Saturday as the leadoff hitter.

Jackson Merrill, who gave Padres fans a POV look at him taking some swings earlier today, flicked a two-run single to left field in the second inning to join the hit parade. Jake Cronenworth followed up Merrill's knock with an RBI single of his own to cap a five-run second inning.

Friars top prospect Leodalis De Vries got some action at shortstop and batted 0-for-2 with a walk. Tirso Ornelas, another top prospect, had another strong day. After picking up a hit and a walk on Friday, Ornelas went smacked a double against the A's, scored twice, drove in a run, and walked once.

Other fresh faces to the organization in Jason Heyward (walk, run scored), Yuli Gurriel (1-for-2, run), and Oscar Gonzalez (double) contributed at the dish in San Diego's win. Through two games, Gonzalez is 4-for-6 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored.

On the mound, Matt Waldron got the win. As the Padres' starter, Waldron went two innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. In total, eight pitchers tossed for the Friars, including new addition Ron Marinaccio. The former Yankees reliever tossed a perfect fifth inning. Jose Espada closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, which drops the A's to 0-1 this spring. J.T. Ginn received the loss as the A's starter, twirling 1 2/3 frames with five runs allowed. Nine pitchers threw for Sacramento.

The Padres return to action on Sunday, February 23 against the reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers in a 3:05 p.m. start.
