It is no shocker that fans are frustrated with the Padres performance at the plate this season. Despite standing at 43-39, which is good for 2nd place in the NL West, San Diego's bats have not been anywhere close to meeting expectations thus far.
With a lineup consisting of stars like Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Jackson Merrill, just to name a few, the Padres are surprisingly a team that is carried by their pitching. In fact, San Diego ranks dead last in Major League Baseball, hitting for just a .221 team batting average (through June 28).
The Friars also rank dead last in hits, runs batted in, runs and on base percentage, while their pitching ranks in the top ten of most statistics. With most of the team struggling in the batter's box, no one has been as disappointing as Manny Machado. The veteran third baseman is hitting just .188 in 80 games this season, which is the worst among qualified hitters in the league. Padres fans are crossing their fingers that the seven-time All Star's spark comes back soon as he is under contract until after the 2033 season.
Padres lineup criticism hits harder because the excuse is getting old
With the underwhelming efforts at the dish, fans have been taking their concerns to social media.

This panel revealed that the excuse of facing top tier arms is no longer a valid argument, if it ever really was one. One viewer even stated that San Diego is at the point where their fans are celebrating for a player just hitting a ball hard. This was followed by one of the contributors questioning if any opposing pitchers should even be afraid of any Padres hitters, suggesting that opposing pitching coaches are likely preparing for the Padres lineup relatively lightly.
As the Padres are currently just on the outside of teams in the playoff race, it is an overwhelming belief that their team will fall short if they cannot find a way to get the bats rolling. With a breather from the All-Star break, as well as any potential moves before the trade deadline comes up at the end of July, this next month will be crucial for the Padres if they want to make a push for the postseason once again.
