As one Padres pitcher rehabs from an injury that has sidelined them all season, another is headed to the injured list. This past week, Matt Waldron is ramping up to hopefully rejoin the San Diego rotation for the first time in 2025, while Michael King is headed to the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The Friars pitching staff has been littered with injuries this season, including Yu Darvish and Matt Waldron. While Darvish and Waldron have yet to pitch in the big leagues this season, King's timeline to a full recovery is nothing to worry about, as manager Mike Shildt feels he should only miss one start.

Waldron should be on his way back to the rotation soon enough. He has made three starts in the minors, including two with Double-A San Antonio. His most recent outing came on May 25 with a clear progression in his workload.

Waldron logged 4 1/3 innings, striking out four batters alongside five hits and four runs allowed. It's not the most glistening and convincing start, but him working deeper into the game is steady proof that he is on track to rejoining the Padres.

Across his three starts, Waldron has compiled eight innings with nine punch-outs, including four walks, one hit batter, and 10 hits scattered.
