San Diego was recently met with a cold front. Umpires across the league have been icing out Padres’ first baseman, Luis Arraez and it's no accident.

Arraez has recently been loose-lipped about his feelings towards the boys in blue. Now, his words have seemingly caught up to him. His comment(s), "...they were bad last year," has quickly spread amongst the umpires across the league and are being taken to heart.

Luis Arraez often enjoys interacting with everyone on the field, but now he finds it increasingly difficult to engage with the umpires. His recent greetings have been met with friction and it is starting to get to him. "I don't want to think that they're mad at me," said Arraez.

This hasn’t affected his on-field performance, as he’s been on a torrid run after a putrid 1-for-18 start. Luis Arraez is hitting .433 with a home run and an OPS of 1.069 in his last seven games and isn't showing signs of slowing down. Just today, he struck out for the first time in 58 plate appearances.

No matter the success he finds, Arraez looks to experience the joy in every moment of the game. The passion he has for the game should remain uncontested. Arraez understands the weight of his words; the umpires must now understand the shared humanity.

This is a bit of a unique problem, but the Padres' issues seemingly continue to stack up. On top of Arraez's beef with the umpires, Dylan Cease has been struggling on the mound in his first few starts, and Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth are each dealing with injuries that remain a bit unclear. The long road that is the MLB season is only starting, but San Diego is already trying to jump through hoops to get from game to game.
