A pitcher's five-day routine is nothing to scoff at. It contains serious regimens that include calculated reps and rest. Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove hasn't made one start this year, as he's been recovering from the formidable Tommy John surgery to repair damage in his UCL. Yet, if you've clocked the Friars dugout this year, you wouldn't know it because Musgrove can usually be seen cheering on his teammates.

In an interview with MartyTimeTV, it was his teammates he was concerned about. When asked about being on the mound putting in pitching reps before a recent game Musgrove said, "It feels good to be like, show[ing] them that I've been working and that I'm getting closer and getting ready." This quote will make Padres fans rejoice as they can vividly remember Musgrove's dominant but somewhat controversial outing in the 2022 NL Wild Card Series against the New York Mets.

Padres' Joe Musgrove is hopeful of a return to the mound in 2025

Musgrove revealed that he is working relentlessly to return to the mound. When asked how long it'll be before he returns, the pitcher was optimistic and honest stating, "I feel pretty close...I've had bad days here and there, but nothing that's lingered and prohibited us from throwing.” Another revelation from the interview is Musgrove admitting that he checks in with A.J. Preller consistently about his progress.

Most clubhouse interviews are favorites for going beyond the field and catching players in their element. Players usually give full and transparent answers to the press when they're relaxed. Perhaps the biggest and funniest reveal in this clip is that someone in the Friars clubhouse must love EDM,(Electronic Dance Music) because the upbeat (approximately 110 bpm [beats per minute] or higher) genre plays in the background as members of the Padres staff bustle to and fro behind Musgrove.

Musgrove is confident the Padres will have a postseason run but is also cognizant of the major moves made to acquire new arms. He dutifully falls in line but also offers his support by saying, "I'm optimistic about a chance to pitch this year, or at least a chance to be ready to pitch, whether they pitch me or not."
