Farhan Zaidi is looking for a new job. After joining the San Francisco Giants in 2018 and despite having one year left on his deal, Zaidi parted ways with the organization this past September following another disappointing season in the Bay Area.
But Zaidi's former employer may be willing to re-hire the failed executive. According to sources, Zaidi is talking to the Los Angeles Dodgers about a role in the front office. Zaidi was formerly the Dodgers General Manager from 2014-2018.
Padres fans are laughing at former Dodgers exec Farhan Zaidi possibly rejoining LA after failed Giants run
If you're a San Diego Padres fan, this should make you laugh. Though the Dodgers have been what some might call a model franchise for the past decade, Zaidi's time in LA's front office was marked (ultimately) by failure. The Dodgers made the World Series in 2017 and 2018 with Zaidi as Andrew Friedman's right-hand man, but Los Angeles ultimately lost the Fall Classic both times. It wasn't until after he left that LA won two of the past five World Series.
Zaidi's time in San Francisco was defined by free agent misses and woeful performances during the postseason. San Fran famously missed out on Aaron Judge when the reigning AL MVP entered the free agent market after the 2022 season. And who could forget how badly the Giants screwed up the pursuit of Carlos Correa during the 2021-22 offseason? If this is the man that Friedman wants to have along for the ride once again, Padres' fans should be rejoicing.
The Dodgers remain the biggest stumbling block for the Padres, and the Friar faithful needn't look back any further than last year's NLCS when San Diego was up 2-1 in the series. And while Zaidi's potential presence in LA's front office won't stop the Dodgers from continuing to dish out countless deferred contracts, perhaps the stench the Giants' past failures will be contagious.
Outside of 107-win team in 2021, every one of Zaidi's Giants' teams failed to reach the playoffs and never even had a winning record. Padres' fans are hoping that lack of success rubs off on the Dodgers as Zaidi looks to rejoin his old organization.
