The story of Luis Campusano is one of intrigue, and one of disappointment. The 26-year-old Padres catching prospect seems to have all the tools in the world when he is playing in the minor leagues, but when he is given his chance in the bigs, he falls completely flat.
It's been a tough pill to swallow for Padres fans, as they've been waiting patiently for him to break out in San Diego, but it may just never happen. Campusano is 0-for-21 with 11 strikeouts in Major League Baseball at-bats this year, which is unfortunately proving that he probably isn't a big league catcher. The Padres essentially confirmed that by trading for Freddy Fermin, rather than promoting Campusano.
Although this may be true, Campusano is becoming a legend with Triple-A El Paso. In 79 games this season, he has 21 home runs, including six in August. His OPS is well-over 1.000 on the year, and while he's been dominating, Campusano broke a Chihuahuas record. He became the franchise's all-time home run king, crushing 52 in an El Paso uniform.

Padres' Luis Campusano becomes a legend with Triple-A El Paso
While this is no big deal to some people, the club is certainly excited about it. It's definitely worth celebrating, but is it enough to promote him again?
There needs to be some serious talks about this statue being built…

With four home runs in his last two games, Luis Campusano now sits alone at the top. Your Chihuahuas all-time home run leader. pic.twitter.com/nAVvmM0LqA
El Paso can basically bank on Campusano being with them as long as he is signed with the organization. He is elite at the Triple-A level, but he cannot cut it in the majors. For El Paso, that formula works well for them. He's not only mashing, but he is becoming an attraction for fans in the area. They know there's a star-level minor leaguer in the lineup who is atop the home run leaderboard in all of Minor League Baseball. That certainly makes going to the game worthwhile.
Sadly for San Diego fans, they may never see Campusano produce at this rate on the big stage. HAts off to Campusano, though. Being part of any record book is impressive, whether in Triple-A or in MLB.
