The rain is falling relentlessly in the Bronx. As the Padres look to get started on their three-game slate against the Yankees and build upon their five-game winning streak, they will have to wait as the game's fate is at the hands of Mother Nature.

The Padres' trip to the East Coast has been riddled with rain, so Monday's game against the Yankees is nothing new. Monday's contest was originally slated for a 7:05 ET start time, but it has been pushed back a bit due to constant rainfall throughout the day. The game will not start on time.

San Diego could use the added rest, especially as they take on the best team in the American League East (19-15). The Padres' previous three-game series against the Pirates called for multiple relievers to be used, so now is the time for the Friars' arms to recover. No starter lasted more than 5 1/3 innings for the Padres in Pittsburgh, which saw Stephen Kolek log that on Sunday in his MLB starting debut.

Dylan Cease only went four innings, and Randy Vasquez tossed five frames. On Friday, San Diego used six relievers, followed by four each on Saturday and Sunday. The rain will come, and the opportunity for rest has appeared for the Padres' bullpen.

It also appears that outfielder Jackson Merrill is with the team, and will hopefully return to action at some point this season, per Kevin Acee of SDUT. Brandon Lockridge is also back with the Padres after recovering from a hamstring injury, and will start in center field, batting ninth.
