The Padres' front office staff should not be done yet in the free agent market. With spring training quickly approaching, the Friars still have several needs to fulfill vacant spots on the roster.

Yes, San Diego missed out on Roki Sasaki, but now, this team can turn the page and focus on building a stronger roster. Despite it being late in the offseason, there are still several players available that can contribute to a Padres' winning effort in 2025.

4 free agent best fits for Padres that are somehow still available to sign

Jack Flaherty

Flaherty is one of the flashiest names still available. He proved to the baseball world that he still has plenty left in the tank after dialing up 194 strikeouts in 2024 spanning 162 innings, so several teams are logically in on the sweepstakes for him.

The right-handed starter wasn't sparkling in the postseason, but his 3.17 regular season ERA and overall output is enough to be a difference-maker for any team he signs with. A starting rotation of Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish, Michael King is already strong, but adding Flaherty makes this staff extremely deep.

Yasmani Grandal

Arguably, the Padres' biggest need is at catcher, and now, it appears that a Grandal reunion may be their only viable option on the table. He wasn't exceptional at the plate, registering nine home runs and a .704 OPS in 72 games.

However, despite playing 19 less contests than Luis Campusano, Grandal's numbers were still better. Bringing Grandal back to the Padres would likely turn into a mentorship role for Campusano, which could provide a long-term solution to their problem at catcher.

Jurickson Profar

On the tails of putting together the greatest season of his career in 2024, Profar obviously wants to get paid well in his next contract. The fans love Profar, and so should the front office.

He clearly blends in well with the current roster and he can keep up with their production. Profar tallied 53 extra-base hits, 94 runs scored, and 85 RBIs en route to his first All-Star appearance, resulting in a Silver Slugger Award and placing 14th in the NL MVP vote.

A Profar return feels like the most logical next move for the Padres to make, but we will just have to wait and see how they prioritize the remainder of the offseason.

Ryan Yarbrough

Yarbrough, 33, brings the best of both worlds. It's surprising that he is still on the board after dominating with the Blue Jays after he was traded from the Dodgers. Yarbrough posted a 2.01 ERA in 12 appearances in Toronto, highlighted by a 0.798 WHIP across 31 1/3 frames.

Not only does Yarbrough eat up major innings in relief (he threw 98 2/3 innings in total last year), he bolsters a bullpen just from the fact of being a left-hander. It never hurts to have another southpaw ready to go, especially one who is reliable and can go beyond just one inning on the mound.

Yarbrough's career numbers at Petco Park should also stand out for San Diego's front office. In six innings in San Diego, he's allowed just one run with no walks. He could be a perfect fit.
