The San Diego Padres tied the series against their division rival in an offensive free-for-all, outhitting and outscoring the Dodgers in an exciting fashion.

All hands were on deck as the San Diego Padres offense exploded en route to a 5-2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Friars ended up outhitting the division rival 14-4.

The entire team was involved in the party as every position player had at least one hit. Eric Lauer commanded the game with six strong innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out six batters. He walked no one en route to his sixth win of the season.

The bullpen also did its job in a dominant way as it went three scoreless innings to close the game, enabling Kirby Yates to earn his 32nd save of the season. It was his first save opportunity in nearly a week.

Perhaps the most exciting storyline was Wil Myers, who finally appears to be breaking out of his season-long slump. He ended the night going 3-for-5 with three singles and a run scored. One of those was an RBI single that plated Greg Garcia and came with two outs in the seventh inning

After hitting a paltry .198/.331/.368 through May and June, the 2016 All-Star found himself in an unfamiliar place — on the bench. In an attempt to clear his mind and reset at the plate, Myers saw players like Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe, and even Josh Naylor get starts in his place.

However, with the trade of Reyes to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, an outfielder spot has opened up and allowed Myers to garner some more playing time.

It looks like he really wants it.

Myers is now on a six-game winning streak with 10 hits with a home run in that time span. He’s slashing .421/.476/.632 in the last seven days.

There were talks and even hopes that Myers might be traded before the deadline, perhaps to a team willing to eat his salary in exchange for someone like Yates. For now though, he appears to have regained some confidence and hopes to return to his former self. His starting role in the lineup and in the field is now his to lose — again.

The Padres at Dodgers series will continue with Game 3 on Saturday, August 3 at 6:10 PM PT/9:10 PM ET.
