San Diego Padres: 2018 25-man roster projections

DENVER, CO - APRIL 10: (R-L) Manager Andy Green

For the purpose of this article, we will look at the San Diego Padre organizations 2018 25-man roster projections, from the big leagues all the way to the short season affiliate in Tri-City.

Having done an article each on the decisions and predictions of the Friar franchise, I’ve been able to come up with a projected roster for the above affiliates.

A five man starting rotation, One Spot-Starter/Long Man, and six relief options. One closer, two setup men, and three other relief options to choose from. Which gives us a twelve man pitching staff.

On the player side of things we will go with a projected starting eight and five bench options. One catcher, one infielder, one utility, and two outfielders. Which makes for thirteen positional choices.

My previous articles have stressed how much depth the system has assembled for the Friar Faithful. It also shows how tough the decisions will be this hot stove season. It would be foolish of me to think the front office will not make more moves.

If this important year of development has taught us anything, is that a lot can change in a year. Who would have thought this time last year that Fernando Tats Jr. would be the clear-cut candidate for the franchise annual “shortstop of the future” tag?

This could be an off-season of trading away some of the excess the team has in the outfield, and at second and third base .Otherwise players who deserve promotions could be starting the year where they finished or repeating levels they have dominated.

That is why they don’t have to bring in too many free agent fillers like in years past. Due to that extensive depth. But it is a given they will.

This 2018 25 man roster projections will go to show not just the depth, but the talent too. The tough choices being made between now and spring time will be franchise altering.

There we have it Friar followers, my best guess at what the 2018 25-man roster projections will look like come spring training. Will they go outside the organization to meet more depth? That looks like a forgone conclusion.

With the depth shown in this 2018 25-man roster projections article. It shows there is not a real need to do so however. Why spend more money when the need isn’t truly there.

Next: Dinelson Lamet continues to impress

One thing is for sure however. The talent in addition to the depth makes this organizations off-season one of the more important in the history of the franchise.
