Padres Announce Spring Training Schedule for 2016

Many uncertainties surround just who the Padres will be when Spring Training breaks camp next February in Peoria, Arizona. With the release of the schedule Thursday, the Padres spring training opponents will not be one of those questions. They finish up their spring training schedule with two exhibition games in San Diego and will play 16 of their 32 games at the Peoria Sports Complex they share with the Seattle Mariners.

Spring Training 2015 was a time when the club welcomed newcomers like Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, and Will Middlebrooks. There was awkwardness as the team played with about 11 outfielders including Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin who would both be traded just before the start of the season. After the plethora of outfielders last spring, this year’s group (to this point) seems a little bare. Travis Jankowksi will be in camp for his first spring training with MLB experience, but also absent this year will be longtime Padre Will Venable.

Pitchers and catchers will report next February 19th and the full squad scheduled to report by February 24th.

Ten of their spring training games will be against NL West opponents, but they also play many other American League teams including the defending champion Kansas City Royals.

Fans will notice some upgrade at the Peoria Sports Complex. The stadium features an upgraded social area down the left field line with an upscale catering menu and bar. So going to the desert for spring training doesn’t mean you have to leave your class in San Diego.

With still three months to go until spring training starts, you can guarantee the changes for this team are just getting started. Craig Kimbrel and Joaquin Benoit are already traded, who is next to go? Stay tuned here at FriarsOnBase.com as the Padres prepare for 2016.
