Friday’s trade deadline is rapidly approaching and rumors involving the San Diego Padres are flying around like crazy. The “experts” are chipping in rumors from their “sources”, but what will actually go down before the end of the week, who knows.
Here’s an update on all the rumors making noise today. Be sure to check back regularly, we’ll be updating as news breaks throughout the day.
**UPDATE** 5:12PM
#Cubs have discussed Starlin Castro with #Padres, sources tell @Ken_Rosenthal and me. Cubs have inquired on San Diego starting pitchers.

I would have liked to get Starlin Castro back in April, now I’m not so sure.
From Earlier Today:
Sources: #Padres & #Orioles have discussed deal to send Justin Upton to Bal. Possibly could expand it to include SD starters (Ross/Cashner)
— Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) July 27, 2015
Sounds like this could be a multiple-player trade with Baltimore acquiring some pitching as well.
nats, jays among teams eying kimbrel. but market is stocked with great closers, so SD may keep CK. http://t.co/6UaVcwxFzq

It’s no surprise Craig Kimbrel would be an interest to other clubs. Kimbrel is arguably the best closer in baseball and as team prepare for the post-season, that position becomes more and more essential.
sources: padres sought ss trea turner back in package for kimbrel. close to nil nats return TT tho. http://t.co/6UaVcwxFzq

This have been nice. I’m not crazy about trading Kimbrel because he’s so good at what he does, but getting Trea Turner back would solve a big problem for the Padres’ future at shortstop. I think Preller learned a hard lesson when he traded Turner this offseason in the Will Myers trade.
jays, rangers, dodgers, astros looking at tyson ross, who is very popular on trade market. #padres http://t.co/rdFoUe6M5j
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 27, 2015
The Padres have pretty much their entire rotation available for trade, but Tyson Ross is getting the most looks right now given his potential and reasonable/controllable contract.
#Cubs, seeking another starter, among clubs that could wait for prices to drop 7/31. #Padres’ Kennedy, others still could be in play then.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 27, 2015
Yeah, of all our pitchers I think Ian Kennedy is the most likely to be traded since he’ll a free agent at the end of the season. Chicago Cubs have a good farm system with prospects I’d like the Padres to get their hands on.
Another high-priced player #Padres are shopping hard, per sources: 2B Jedd Gyorko. Owed $32M from 2016 to ’19, plus $1M buyout.

Pfff good luck with that Preller.
