According to Mark Schremmer for the Joplin Globe, the Padres have purchased the right to 30 year old Cuban catcher, Yenier Bello, from the independent league’s Joplin Blasters.
Bello was recently cut by the Atlanta Braves after signing with them just a year ago.
Preller’s regarded for his international player knowledge so this might be a guy that he has been keeping tabs on for awhile.
Time will tell what kind of effect Bello will have on the Padres roster. Derek Norris has been great for the Padres this season and Austin Hedges has just been called up to the major league club, so there’s a chance the Bello may never to call pitches in Petco Park.
What do you guys think about this move?
