The San Diego Padres dropped the first game of their home series Monday night to NL West foes, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Andrew Cashner got the start for the Padres, throwing six innings and giving up seven hits, four runs, but no earned runs. Cashner’s four runs were a result of a throwing error by Yangervis Solarte in the second inning. Solarte (2-4) made his second start in a row at second base over the struggling Jedd Gyorko. Something tells me tomorrow Gyorko will be back in the lineup (which I think would be a mistake).
Cashner was dominant the rest of the game for the Friars. The rest of the bullpen, not so much.
Brandon Maurer came in after Cashner and gave up one run in his one inning pitched.
Shawn Kelley came in next and continued to struggle early this season. In his 2/3 innings pitched tonight, Kelley gave up three runs and three hit, pretty much sealing the win for the opposition.

So far this season, Kelley as a 15.00 ERA. That’s not going to cut it in a Padres bullpen. Time to send Kelley down and recall Kevin Quackenbush.
The Padres will look to bounce back tomorrow against Arizona. Odrisamer Despaigne will make his first start of the 2015 season, filling the spot of injured Padres starter Ian Kennedy.
So, what are your thoughts on the game? How badly are you worried about Shawn Kelley?
We’ll be back tomorrow with updates on the all the action.
