According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the San Diego Padres GM is rumored to be looking to acquired a new Shortstop; the position currently occupied by Alexi Amarista and Clint Barmes.
With the recent acquisition of Craig Kimbrel, the Padres have been receiving a lot of inquiries about their bullpen arms, so that would likely be the trading piece the Padres would need to part with. Sorry, we won’t get rid of Melvin Upton that easy.
As for potential targets for the Padres? There are a few speculating that the Chicago Cubs‘ Starlin Castro might be available.
Castro would definitely be an offensive upgrade – .292 batting average last season – but I’m not familiar with him enough to judge his defense. I actually drafted Castro in my Fantasy Baseball League this year, so I’m already rooting for him to have a good season; even better if he does it in San Diego.
What do you think? Which shortstop out there do you think the Padres should go after? Who would you be willing to trade? Which shortstop did you draft?
