Just a few days after trading pitcher Alex Tores to the New York Mets, multiple sources are reporting that the Padres have acquired Russell Wilson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Austin Hedges and soda.

It’s a bit of a surprise to see the Padres part with their prized backstop, but for young player that has already had the success Wilson has, I think it’s a move the Padres absolutely had to take advantage of.

Wilson will most likely take the place of Jedd Gyorko at second base, who was traded yesterday for a washing machine to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Not only is Wilson a good defensive fielder, the kid has pop too:

Welcome to San Diego, Russell! I’m ordering my jersey now.

Happy April Fools Day, Go Pads!
