Padres News: Hurlers Happy With Changes To Team
The pitchers of the San Diego Padres are excited about the upcoming season, and that’s an understatement. The pitchers of the Padres are ecstatic! So ecstatic I might add that they are in talks with the Padres about extensions. One particular pitcher, my personal favorite pitcher on the Padres, Andrew Cashner had this to say about the Padres moves according to Dennis Lin of UT San Diego: “It’s been pretty cool seeing all the moves we made.” Andrew Cashner also stated this: “This is my first year to have a chance to win.” It certainly seems like Andrew Cashner is on board, and excited to be on a team that has a real chance of competing this year!
He isn’t the only one either, the other Padres pitcher that is interested in staying in San Diego long term is Ian Kennedy who is also really stoked about the upcoming season, and especially the additions the team has made, particularly the addition of Justin Upton! He had this to say about the addition: “Justin’s just one year, but you never know. If we win, it makes things different.” He also had this to say about the overall team upgrades: “For me, it’s like the team got better, but it’s also better for now and later on. I’m glad to be a part of it and that they wanted me to be a part of it.”

These two players are looking to sign extensions because Andrew Cashner will be a free agent after the 2016 season. He will make $4.05 million dollars this year, while Ian Kennedy on the other hand only has one year left until free agency and will make $9.85 million this year. So what should the Padres do? I say they sign them, because if they don’t, the players the team just acquired this off-season, will not be as justified, because losing the ace of your staff, and a very solid pitcher in Ian Kennedy will impact the team in a very negative way going forward, and both of them are young. Andrew Cashner is only 28, and Ian Kennedy is only 30.
So will the Padres sign these two top pitchers in their rotation, before they go into free agency? We will find out, but make sure to keep checking back with us here at Friars On Base as we give you all of the latest regarding this story, and all of the latest Padres news!
