Padres News: Four Padres Prospects Make MLB.com Top 100

We are nearing the end of the off-season, and now is the time where not only do you think about what your team is going to be this year, but what your team is going to be in the years to come. Who are the guys that they may be building around? Is it a power bat? A slick fielder who can hit a bit? A power arm or a few of them?

MLB.com released their top 100 prospect list for 2015,including a show for the top 50, and the Padres are represented with four names on the list. The four are the guys you’re thinking of.

Hunter Renfroe was the the highest ranked of the bunch, coming in at 48 overall. He was ninth among outfielders. The Padres have high hopes for Renfroe who could move quick into what is a crowded outfield situation with Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Wil Myers.

Austin Hedges just missed the top 50, coming in at 51 overall. He was the fourth overall catching prospect. Everyone loves his defense, but there are some serious questions about whether or not he will be able to hit at the next level. He hit just .225 last season in AA.

Last season’s first round pick Trea Turner came in at 62 overall and was the eighth shortstop. Turner won’t be with the Padres past June since he will be heading to the Nationals in the Wil Myers deal.

Lastly is right-handed starter Matt Wisler, who came in at 69. He was not in the top 10 right handed pitchers. Don’t be surprised if Wisler is in the rotation at some point during this season, as the right-hander is very close to major league ready as long his mechanics are in order.
