Padres Spring Training Prediction
With only five weeks until spring training, we here at Friars On Base are getting geared up for Spring Training. Let’s start looking at players I think will be making the team out of Spring Training from each position. Let’s start with the pitching spot. I believe that Cory Luebke will make the team out of spring training after being out the last two years due to an arm injury in which he required Tommy John surgery. So who’s going to be the starting catcher? I believe out of the catchers that the Padres have acquired, Derek Norris will be starting for the Padres come opening day in LA.

In terms of the first base position, there isn’t really a lot of competition for the starting role, and Yonder Alonso is the person I see returning at that position for the Friars. Again at the second base position, I see Jedd Gyorko taking the job, as there really isn’t a whole lot of competition for the starting job at second base either.
The one spot that I feel is still up for grabs is the shortstop position, with Clint Barmes and Alexi Amarista available for the shortstop position. I find that if Alexi has a better spring, he will get the starting nod. The same goes for the third base spot, where I believe that Yangervis Solarte will win the spot if he has a better spring than newly-acquired Will Middlebrooks. Then finally, the outfield positions I see going to the three stars the Padres picked up, Wil Myers, Matt Kemp, and Justin Upton. Who do you think will get the starting positions Friar Faithful? Sound off!
