The San Diego Padres front office is NOT afraid to spend some money and go after the big boys this off-season, The Padres have outbid everybody in the Pablo Sandoval sweepstakes so far, surpassing teams such as the Red Sox and the Giants. What does that tell you? To me it says the Padres are looking to win as soon as possible, even as soon as this coming year. However there is a catch, even though the Padres have the highest contract offer, according to the San Fransisco Chronicle Pablo might be favoring the Red Sox offer.

Sandoval’s agent, Gustavo Vasquez has asked the Giants to put forth their best offer this week. He is said to want to sign with a team before Thanksgiving this Thursday. If the Padres are the team that Pablo decides to sign with, it would be the biggest contract in Padres team history, surpassing the three-year, $53 million dollar contract extension the Padres signed Jake Peavy to back in 2007.
Even though the Padres are looking to sign either Pablo Sandoval or Yosmany Tomas, they are the top contenders to sign both players and the Padres are keeping all of their options open, even looking into trades. Now the Padres have said that they are probably going to end up keeping Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner, so that leaves Ian Kennedy who the team has gotten a ton of interest for from other clubs. Will the Padres trade Kennedy? Can they sign Pablo Sandoval or Yosmany Tomas or both? Keep checking back here at Friars On Base for updates.
