Bud Black Weighs In…
Early yesterday morning, Bud Black called into the Dave and Jeff hour on Fox Sports San Diego Extra 1360 to talk baseball and the Fall Classic. The interview got underway with them talking about the addition of Logan White to the Baseball Operations staff and Black’s response was “As far as Logan White, he is a guy that comes with a lot of scouting experience as well. Obviously what he’s done with the Dodgers over a decade with Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley and on the international side Hyun – Jin – Ryu and Yaseil Puig and others that he brought to the Dodgers.”

On the topic of the Padres new hitting coach, Black says that Alonso Powell is being interviewed for the job as well as a few others. Powell was the assistant hitting coach this past season for the Padres. When Buddy was asked about how the 2015 Padres will look, he said “When you set out a plan, in most cases it takes the other side to be on board too. Whether it’s a trade or free agent, it takes two sides to tango so I know that A.J. Preller is going to do everything possible to get some middle of the order bats and to help the guys that we do have coming back.”
Black continued to praise Preller for his work saying that his work ethic is he extremely high. Bud Black was also asked about the 1985 World Series in which he pitched as a member of the Royals, he commented “Very proud of that ’85 season and team. Game Six 29 years ago, was a great game, we ended up scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 3-2. If we had only scored one run I would have pitched the 10th inning, all of those memories have been relived with the Royals getting back to the World Series now.”
With so much going on for the Padres during the off-season, it sounds like the front office is committed to getting a winning team on the field. We’ll find out together what moves Preller and the Padres front office will make to improve the team for the 2015 season.
