Wednesday afternoon was the debut of the Friars on Base Radio Show. The host of the show is none other than yours truly.
What are my qualifications you ask?
For starters, I’ve been an avid fan of the team since moving to San Diego at eight years of age. I’ve earned my stripes. I go to Fan Fest and Spring Training every year. I’ve been to plenty of games and witnessed plenty of losing seasons. I’ve been there for playoffs and losing streaks. The good and the bad. Mostly bad, with the exception of the late 1990’s and mid 2000’s. But that won’t stop me from being there when the Padres throw their first ever no-hitter or hit for their first ever cycle. That’s part of being a fan. Sticking it out.

Don’t confuse the issue. Just because I’m sticking it out doesn’t mean I don’t have strong opinions about the team. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t have negative opinions about the team. Let’s just say I have accurate opinions on the team.
Disillusionment walked out the door with Jake Peavy. Sunny dispositions hopped on a plane to Boston with Adrian Gonzalez. Hope was stolen along with $200 million dollars by John Moores. There’s nothing wrong with being a homer. I’m just not one of them anymore.
But, I love baseball. And damnit, I love the Padres.
And if you’re reading this, odds are that you love the Padres too.
So lets talk Padres.
We wanted to start our show off on a high note. Since this is a brand new product, we wanted to ease listeners into the show. Someone who has been there with the fans through thick and thin for the last 17 years like a close friend. Mark Grant. Mudcat.
Mark was kind enough to do our inaugural broadcast and he brought a lot to the table. He was an excellent interview and offered a lot of insight on the 2014 season. Here are just a few of the topics we covered on the Friars on Base Radio Show- Episode 1 (The Phantom Playoff)
- Overall grade for the 2014 season
- The Padres lack of offense
- Bud Black as a Manager of the Year candidate
- The Bud Selig Plaza
- Honoring Tony Gwynn
- The next San Diego Padres icon
- Bringing Back the Brown
