The Editor’s Desk with Billy Brost: Fans Chance To Sound-Off!

Since I joined the staff of Friars On Base as the co-editor back in June, I’ve had a few opportunities to interact with Padres’ fans via Twitter, Facebook, and even in person. Being a fan of the New York Yankees, dealing with Padres’ fans is a complete different creature than dealing with the rabid fans of the Bronx. Even though the Padres aren’t going to the playoffs, and yes, even if they win their final ten games, they could finish at exactly .500, Padres’ fans are passionate and loyal. Perhaps a little quieter than fans of the Bronx Bombers, but knowledgeable nonetheless.

More from Padres News

Each day, I bring you thoughts and perceptions as someone that covers this team everyday, regular season, off-season, spring time. It doesn’t matter. I’ll be here, reading, researching, and sharing what I think is in the best interests of the San Diego Padres, and not biting my tongue when the team needs to be called out. Sometimes you the fan, do not necessarily agree with what I believe, or what I have to say. As I always tell my writing staff when a reader makes it a point to respond to one of our pieces in less than kind terms: “Put your thick skin suit on…this is what we do.” I’ve got writers that seriously get their feelings rubbed the wrong way. Unfortunately for you, I am not one of them. I’ve been at this for years. I actually enjoy good banter between author and reader.

The Padres have 10 games left. Then it is off to the fall and winter, and the GM Meetings, then the Winter Meetings, all while discussing moves that the team could or should make, rumors, etc. We here at Friars on Base appreciate your patronage as our audience, and we make every attempt to bring you the very best coverage. We’re not perfect, as no media outlet is. You may not and do not always agree with what we say, but we respect your thoughts as our audience.

As the sole editor of this site now, I want to know what is on YOUR mind as the Padres’ fan base. Are you concerned about the rebuilding process? Do you have faith that A.J. Preller will produce a quick overhaul and make the Padres a contender as early as next season? Have you had enough of Bud Black? Should he be given another chance with another GM?

What players do you want to see sent packing? Had enough of Cameron Maybin, Will Venable, and Carlos Quentin? Is it time to give Mallex Smith the starting center field job and see if he is indeed Billy Hamilton 2.0? How much money should Preller and the Padres commit to free agents this winter? Who should they pursue with a full court press? Who should they avoid at all costs? This is your chance to be in my shoes. You the fan, who live and breath the blue and brown, the brown and gold, or whatever other color scheme the Friars choose to break out for game day. This is your chance to respond to my offer of “Play the Editor.”

What’s in it for you? Well, the best questions and/or statements will be featured in this very column one week from today. I’ll post your name, your statement or question, along with your Twitter handle. Here’s a chance to be a member of the Friars on Base staff. Fill in the blanks. The canvas is yours!

Thank you again for reading and I look forward to going through each of your responses!

Keep the Faith.
