The San Diego Padres continued their winning in May with another solid win against the Colorado Rockies.  Not with their usual MLB leading offense, but with timely hitting and solid pitching.

Brandon Morrow turned in another impressive pitching performance, allowing only two earned runs over six innings of work to improve his record to 2-0.  Brandon Maurer and Craig Kimbrel came in to close out the remainder of the game.

1st Inning

The Padres looked looked to pick up where they left off against Jorge De La Rosa in Colorado.  After a walk from Wil Myers and Derek Norris, Matt Kemp came up clutch with a solid single to right center.

2nd Inning

The Rockies evened up the score by stringing together a couple of solid hits in the top of the 2nd.  Morrow kept the damage to a minimum by forcing De La Rosa to ground out at the end of the inning.

3rd Inning

The Rockies jumped out to a 2-1 lead with a solo shot off the bat of Charlie Blackmon.

5th Inning

The top of the lineup continued to deliver for the Padres.  Derek Norris continued his hot hitting with a double to advance Wil Myers. Justin Upton then hit a sharp single to drive in both runners.

9th Inning

Craig Kimbrel came in for the save in the 9th inning.  He was back to his usual form throwing high 90 MPH gas.  He ended the game by striking out former Padre Nick Hundley.

Overall, this was a solid win for the San Diego Padres.  The final score may not be as exciting as a 14 run rout, but a win is a win.  We need to string wins like this together to reach the playoffs this season.

Jedd Gyorko got the start at second base with the left hand hitting De La Rosa on them mound.  He was finally able to deliver with a double.  I’m still not sure if Gyorko is the answer for the Padres.  I think they may have really found something with Yangervis Solarte.

What do you think of the Padres win?  Is there anything else that the team should do to improve moving forward?
