This morning Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that the Padres have acquired outfielder Justin Upton.
Jon Heyman had the details of the trade.
It sounds like a pretty hefty return for a one-year rental, but it is not believed to include one of the Padres’ top 3 pitchers in Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross and Ian Kennedy, and their top 3 prospects Matt Wisler, Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe. Overnight the Padres have become a contender with a completely revamped outfield with the acquisitions of Wil Myers and Matt Kemp alongside Upton and an All-Star catcher in Derek Norris.
