Matt Kemp Trade Talk Still Just Talk?

Padres’ fans were hopeful that the current Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp would be traded yesterday. That didn’t happen just yet, or will it even happen at all? The Padres could be looking at strike three in big trade or free agent talks. For now, all is quiet on the trade front.

More from Padres News

Let’s look at the news that was reported yesterday in order:

At the beginning of Tuesday, news was spreading that the Padres were for real in acquiring the services of Kemp.

Then other teams were interested, but they said no. Still, Padres driving in the Red Zone. (Sorry, it’s still football season in San Diego)

Now this doesn’t mean the Padres swung and missed on Kemp quite yet, there is still the rest of the week to go and an entire off-season for the Padres to figure out something until another team forces a turnover on the Padres and an easy dunk (basketball reference, apologies). Players don’t seem to be flocking to come hit at intimidating Petco Park. Kemp though has seemed to have success with the Dodgers at Petco before, but can he do it for 81 home games?

The Padres will have to give up a little more than Yasmani Grandal to get Kemp and it could require an excellent pitcher in Jesse Hahn or more.
