Grandal and Renfroe Keeping Their Bats Warm During The Off-Season

Even though it’s the off season the work for Padres players doesn’t stop! Two Padres players have been working on their game in the Dominican Republic. The Padres vice president of scouting operations, Don Welke said ” The reports were all good on Grandal” ,according to Bill Center of MLB.com.

More from Padres News

Grandal reportedly wants to be a catcher and Bud Black views him as a catcher, which leaves the Padres the option either to hold on to him or Rene Rivera. The reports on Grandal were good,

"Welke had this to say about Grandal: “He looked sharper offensively and defensively, You know he is doing good when quite a few teams express interest in him.”"

While Welke scouted Grandal in the Dominican Republic, he also scouted the Padres players that were in the Arizona Fall League and he came away impressed by what he saw.

Hunter Renfroe, Trea Turner, and Jace Petersen, and pitchers Burch Smith and Brandon Alger.

Welke said this about Renfroe

"“Renfroe is a very toolsy player. He has power. he can run and throw. I don’t know if he’ll hit for enough average to be considered a five- tool player, but he’s cut down on his strikeouts. He’s a very interesting player”"

It certainly looks like Yasmani Grandal and Hunter Renfroe have impressed the most this off season. I hope the Padres give Grandal another shot at Catcher, he has the power to be the catcher the Padres need.
