Padres Morning Dump

• Batting: The Padres rank second-to-last in the majors in batting average (.233) and runs scored (257). Chase Headley became the first Padre to ever collect three four-hit games on one road trip. He hit .474 (18-for-38) with four doubles, five RBIs and five runs in nine games at Colorado, Minnesota and Boston.

This season it might take only 85 victories to win the tepid National League West, but hopes of this being a playoff team have just about disappeared.

Cropper will fly out of Wilmington Thursday to meet with team officials, the outcome of that meeting will determine whether or not Cropper will sign a contract.  The team is offering no money up front, just the chance for Cropper to prove himself and keep a spot on the roster.

Third baseman James Darnell with Double-A San Antonio was named Thursday to the U.S. roster and outfielder Reymond Fuentes with Class A Lake Elsinore has been named to the World roster.

Frank McCourt can sue, but he probably can’t win. The embattled owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers can retain the most expensive attorneys and launch the most embittered invective and carry on as if Commissioner Bud Selig ruled by whimsy and vendetta.
