SAN DIEGO — San Diego Padres reliever Joe Thatcher has undergone exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his strained left shoulder.

The San Diego Padres had a payroll of $45,869,140 million on Opening Day, ranking them 27th out of 30th MLB teams. The team’s CEO, Jeff Moorad said on Suday that negotiations toward a new local television deal will have a “direct impact” on the Padres’ 2012 payroll (via Bill Center and Tim Sullivan of the San Diego Union-Tribune).
