SAN DIEGO — San Diego Padres reliever Joe Thatcher has undergone exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his strained left shoulder.

The San Diego Padres had a payroll of $45,869,140 million on Opening Day, ranking them 27th out of 30th MLB teams.
