The Morning Friar – 4/19/11

San Diego Padres owner Jeff Moorad says there’s a good chances the Tucson Padres (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) will end up staying in Tucson if a new ballpark in Escondido doesn’t happen — a proposition that still looks pretty iffy.

The Pads have managed a 3-4 record since Monday as they continue to hover around the .500 mark, 7-8 on the year. The reoccurring theme for the week is the Padres failing to capitalize with runners in scoring position. The lack of an impact bat in the middle of the order is becoming increasingly obvious, as the offense has to get production from multiple players in order to be effective.

You might think you know the Padres.

But the truth is that few know what goes on with ballclubs. Players have even been known to keep ailments secret from managers and coaches.

Oswalt felt good enough to throw a 40-pitch bullpen session today and afterward indicated to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com that he’ll make his scheduled Thursday start against the Padres in San Diego.
