The Morning Friar - 3/3/11

Gonzalez had another outstanding season, yet at the end of the year it became obvious the organization would not be able to sign him. So he was shipped to Boston in exchange for 3 of the Red Sox Top 6 prospects (including No. 1 prospect Casey Kelly). But he wasn’t the only player to find a new home, as three-quarters of the infield was turned over.

With 36 new players in spring training camp this year, Padres manager Bud Black knows it will take a while for things to mesh.

“With so many new guys, we have to find our identity,” Black said Wednesday morning

The trap-door ending to the 2010 regular season was hard to swallow, sure.

Will Adrian Gonzalez be missed? Are you kidding?

But does any of that matter? If you are a San Diego Padre in Year 1 A.G., only to a degree

I went to for his analysis of the 2011 Padres, and provided an extensive rebuttal. I was egged on by his warning of too much work for Latos and his “small frame”, not to mention his belief that all the changes were downgrades.

I got an email back, and it turned out that he’d gotten no comments from Sox fans and added the “small frame” reference to see if anyone caught it. He’s got a comment contest going, and since I’m the only comment and I caught the “small frame” reference, I’m the leader in line to win two Red Sox tickets during the season.

Apparently those totally engaged Sox fans are oblivious to or uninterested in the National League. It’s curious, considering they got a key player from the Padres, and the Sox will host Adrian’s old team this year.

just like most fans on the east side, they know nothing about the San Diego Padres. there is no way that these additions are downgrades to what we had last season. I am excited for the season and the new additions.

hopefully you get some tickets for the sox game. maybe you can fly out and see our padres play against them, otherwise, just sell them on craigslist.
