Due to inclement weather in the Philadelphia area, Tuesday night’s game between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres has been postponed. The two clubs will now play a split day-night doubleheader on Wednesday, July 2, at Citizens Bank Park.

The originally scheduled game for July 2 will remain a 10:05 a.m. PT start. The makeup game from Tuesday will take place that evening at 3:15 p.m PT.

Both teams are expected to stay the course with their scheduled pitching matchups, though there’s always the chance for last-minute adjustments given the compressed schedule. Here's how the projected matchups currently shape up:

Probable Pitchers for Padres vs. Phillies, July 2

  • 10:05 a.m. PT: RHP Dylan Cease (3-7, 4.53 ERA) vs. RHP Mick Abel (2-1, 3.47 ERA)
  • 3:15 p.m. PT: RHP Nick Pivetta (8-2, 3.36 ERA) vs. LHP Cristopher Sánchez (6-2, 2.79 ERA)

The Padres entered Tuesday night looking to bounce back after being stifled by Phillies ace Zack Wheeler in Monday’s series opener. Wheeler was dominant, firing eight scoreless innings while scattering six hits and striking out 10. He handed the ball off to reliever Tanner Banks, who sealed the deal with a clean ninth to lock in a 4-0 shutout win for Philadelphia.

The Phillies, who sit atop the NL East, have relied on the consistent left arm of Sánchez all season, while Abel, the club’s former top prospect, continues to grow into a major role during his rookie campaign. On the other side, San Diego will counter with Pivetta — a familiar face in Philadelphia — and Cease.

With both teams battling in tight races in their respective divisions, Wednesday’s doubleheader could carry extra weight. Fans will get a full day of action — and fireworks — as part of what promises to be one of the more exciting days of baseball this summer in Philadelphia.
