The Opening Week of the 2025 regular season has been one of celebration for the San Diego Padres. They extended Jackson Merrill's contract for another nine years, they avoided a PED mishap with former Friar Jurickson Profar, and on the field, they are 7-0.

Entering Thursday's slate of games, the Padres are one of two teams left undefeated. The Los Angeles are the only club without a defeat. Much of San Diego's success has been at the plate, and through a full week of regular season contests, Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill, Gavin Sheets, and Fernando Tatis Jr. are each hitting .400 or better. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but four everyday bats doing this damage simultaneously has been a treat to watch.

Four Padres are hitting .400 or better one week into the 2025 season

Manny Machado

Entering April 3, Machado is riding a four-game hitting, hammering an 8-for-16 clip with a double and two stolen bases over this stretch. His 10 hits so far are tied for fourth-most in Major League Baseball. His leadership and his production at the dish will be crucial and parallel to San Diego's overall success.

He was dealing with some early calf tightness that worried fans for a day or so, but that doesn't appear to be lingering too much for the All-Star.

Jackson Merrill

On the same day that Merrill inked a lengthy contract extension, he cranked a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Friars a 4-0 lead over the Guardians.

Entering Thursday, he is hitting .417 with two homers, one double and eight RBIs, which is tied for fifth-most in the National League. He has at least one hit in all seven contests.

Gavin Sheets

The non-roster invite has turned into a San Diego phenom and fan favorite. Sheets, after having a monster spring training, has been just as impactful in the regular season. He has a .444 average through six games, including two multi-hit efforts already, with one home run and a pair of doubles.

Fernando Tatis Jr.

Kyle Tucker is the only player in baseball with more than Tatis Jr., but he has played in two more games. Tatis Jr. has 11, including a home run and a double, alongside five stolen bases - and even stole home once. Tatis Jr. has reeled in four multi-hit games already.
