As San Diego Padres fans continue to mourn the passing of Peter Seidler, tributes from around baseball continue to pour in for a man who was not only so pivotal to the Padres organization, but also to San Diego as a city and the game of baseball as a whole.

We at Friars at Base certainly extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Seidler's family as well as the Padres organization in this time of loss.

San Diego Padres: Times announced for home spring training games

Are you ready for spring training? While we haven't even reached the MLB winter meetings yet, there is already a little bit of a buzz around spring training starting to build. Part of that comes from the announcement on Wednesday from Peoria Sports Complex about what time home games for the Padres (and stadium partner Seattle Mariners) will be in February and March.

And, yes, you'll notice that Padres home games stop after the March 13 encounter with the Oakland A's. With the Padres heading to South Korea for the March 20 season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, spring training will have a different feel to it this year than in recent seasons.

San Diego Padres pick up Logan Gillaspie off waivers

The Padres added to their pitching depth on Wednesday by picking up right-hander Logan Gillaspie from the Boston Red Sox. The 26-year-old was added to the Boston roster in September after being picked up off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, but he never saw action with the Red Sox.

Over the course of the last two seasons, Gillaspie appeared in 28 games with Baltimore, throwing a total of 26.1 innings with a 4.10 ERA/4.53 FIP/1.595 WHIP and an overall ERA+ of 99.

Gillaspie allowed 34 hits in those 26.1 innings and will likely be viewed as bullpen depth heading into the 2024 campaign.
