It has been an extremely eventful start to the second half of the 2024 for the San Diego Padres. The Padres have won five straight series and their bullpen got a massive overhaul at the trade deadline. However, much of fans' attention right now is what the big league roster will look like in the coming weeks and months.

We still don't know if/when Yu Darvish will return, although the team is optimistic he will be back at some point in 2024. Even with the rotation pitching its brains out right now, San Diego could really use some starting pitching reinforcements for the stretch run. Luckily, it sounds like help is on the way from the injured list.

Padres News: Joe Musgrove likely to make one more rehab start before return from IL

San Diego was really banking on Joe Musgrove being an integral part of their 2024 rotation after the departures of Blake Snell, Seth Lugo, and Michael Wacha. Unfortunately, Musgrove went on the IL with elbow inflammation to throw a wrench in those plans. Luckily, the Padres' rotation has gone Super Saiyan lately to blunt the loss of Musgrove a good bit.

In even better news, it sounds like Musgrove could be back on the mound for the Padres soon. After throwing a decent rehab start last weekend, Musgrove is expected to need one more rehab start before getting activated from the injured, which would put his return sometime early next week if everything holds.

Padres News: Veteran Carl Edwards Jr. making transition to rotation

When the Padres signed Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league deal in early July, the deal didn't get much notice. Edwards Jr. put together a decent tenure with the Nationals the last couple of years, but a stress fracture in his scapula (ouch) ended his 2023 season early and the veteran reliever had become a bit of an afterthought.

However, it turns out that Edwards Jr. and the Padres have a very interesting plan in the works for him. According to a report, Edwards Jr. is currently being stretched out as a starter. It is very unusual for a guy who has been a reliever as long as Edwards Jr. has to be converted to the rotation. However, the move could give San Diego a nice backup plan in the event of another injury and, worst-case scenario, Edwards Jr. will be ready to roll as a long reliever which has a lot of value in the postseason.

Padres News: San Diego to increase season ticket prices by a modest 3% for 2025

Increasing ticket prices never feels good. Diehard fans want to keep costs down so that they can enjoy as many games as possible, especially in a world where a lot of things are more expensive than they used to be. However, the costs of running a baseball team and gameday operations aren't getting lower, either, so the expectation is ticket prices will continue to creep upward.

Still, it was somewhat heartening when it was revealed the Padres were increasing ticket prices by an average of just 3% across the board. Paying more for tickets stinks to be sure, but San Diego is still endeavouring to produce a quality product on the field. As long as they keep doing that, fans will keep paying to come see them play.
