While this offseason has been one to forget for the San Diego Padres, this is still a very dangerous team in 2024 that could make more noise than folks are giving them credit for. They still have superstars on both sides of the ball in Yu Darvish, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Manny Machado, and fans are still going to want to tune in and see the Padres compete each night.

Unfortunately, watching Padres' games from home has changed dramatically very recently. Diamond Sports' ongoing bankruptcy caused them to drop Padres game coverage completely after failing to pay their TV rights obligations to San Diego in 2023. Given the new media landscape, here is a guide to (most) everything Padres fans need to know about how to watch games in 2024.

How to watch Padres games on cable in 2024

Will Bally no longer covering Padres games, MLB was forced to take over Padres broadcasts last season and that isn't changing in 2024. The bulk of in-market Padres games will be broadcast by MLB and carried by DirectTV (channel 694-3), AT&T Uverse (channel 781), Cox (channel 4), and Spectrum (channel 305). Normally, single team coverage would be rather expensive from MLB TV, but Padres fans got a nice break from them, as it only costs $19.99 a month. Given the lack of other broadcast options, this was a kindness done by the league.

Padres games will also appear on some national broadcasts at some point in 2024. The early season release of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball's schedule includes the Padres' April 14 matchup with the Dodgers, as well as their May 19 game against the Braves. It is also very possible that national broadcasts at Fox or TBS could air a game here and there, but those have not been announced just yet.

For those that prefer a Spanish language option, 860 AM is where you will find the Spanish language broadcast. For those that want an online listening option, the Padres Radio Network's online home is on Audacy and you can listen to games there as well.

There are plenty of cordcutters out there, as well as out-of-market Padres fans that want options to watch games. Unfortunately, the only option still available to consistently watch San Diego is through MLB TV's subscription, as they do not hold any agreements (as of now) with services like Hulu, Sling, or fuboTV.

However, MLB did lift the blackout restrictions on Padres games, so one should be able to get Padres games for $19.99 a month wherever you are. Just make sure to check beforehand to make sure that is true before committing, while also noting that some games will have national exclusivity. To sign up, you can click right here. There is a free trial period, so you can test it out before making any decisions as well.

The short answer is that you can't, as the Padres are MLB TV exclusive for the moment. However, fuboTV is a fantastic option to get loads of local San Diego and regional TV content to replace pricey cable packages or curate one's digital content options. Their packages start at $79.99 and include loads of sports channels like ESPN and MLB Network, which is a big savings over what expanded cable packages cost these days. Make sure to sign up for a free trial here and let them know that we sent you their way.
