The story of David Morgan is one that can only make Padres fans smile from ear to ear. From Mission Viejo, Morgan is not only a local kid, but a player who changed positions in order to keep his professional dreams alive and play Major League Baseball - all for his hometown Padres.

Despite the locals probably knowing who Morgan is, he's still sort of forgotten about. Blended in the middle of an elite bullpen highlighted by three All-Stars in Jason Adam, Robert Suarez, and Adrian Morejon, San Diego just traded for Mason Miller, too. There is so much talent to go around in this Friars bullpen, but let's not forget about David Morgan, who has the best ERA on the staff (even if it's just 0.01 lower than Jason Adam).

Padres' David Morgan has been just as good as the other top-end San Diego relievers in 2025

Morgan was called up on May 25, and the Padres' front office staff has not regretted it. The 25-year-old right-hander holds a 1.67 ERA with a heavy fastball and perfect mixture of curveballs-sliders-sinkers.

In 28 appearances, Morgan has allowed a run in just five of those outings. He's currently riding a scoreless streak of nine straight appearances, which spans 9 1/3 innings alongside a 9/3 K/BB. His ERA+ this season is astronomical, soaring high-above other relievers at 258.

The only thing that will add to the legend of David Morgan being a local kid contributing to the Padres is playoff success. San Diego took a chance on him by signing Morgan as an undrafted free agent in 2022, and that's already paid off. Now, Morgan is already taking one step further in what the fans and the team can expect from him.

Pitching alongside some of the best bullpen arms in the league, Morgan is looking at becoming a reliable contributor come postseason time. If fans are not familiar with Morgan yet, it's time to give him credit where it's due. He could be another star in the making.
